• Throughout 2011 and 2012, I volunteered as a coach for Special Olympics McDowell County. During this time I helped coach athletes in the sports of swimming and soccer. This gave me insight into working one-on-one with people who have special needs.

• In the summer of 2012, I volunteered in the children's section of the McDowell County Public Library. During this time I assisted librarians in activities for children, shelved books, and decorated and updated information on bulletin boards.

• In 2014, I interned in the afterschool program at Parkway School in Boone, NC as a field experience for my PSY 3010- Psychology Applied to Education. During this intership I assisted students in the afterschool program complete their homework and observed how they interacted with one another and other adults. I also planned and executed a reading lesson for 3rd grade students.

• In 2015, I interned at Mountain View Elementary School in Jefferson, NC. During this internship I worked with Jennifer York in her sixth grade classroom as part of my CI 3000- Learner Diversity: Teaching English Language Learners.  I observed many students in order to complete numerous case study assignments.

• In May 2017, I will graduate with a Master's Degree in Reading Education in addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. 

• In the future, I hope to teach in Western North Carolina and will be available for hire Fall 2017.
